Content: The Key To Increased Website Traffic

Filed under: Web Infos — admin @ 1:20 am

Everyone wants to have a lot of traffic to their website. In order to get this traffic many people try to work on their meta tags or even do tricks trying to get more visitors to their website. One of the simplest and most solid ways to increase the flow of traffic to your website is to offer more content. It has often been said that on the Internet, content is king. It is important to understand how more content can bring more visitors to your site and how to generate content that is related to your particular web site.

Why do you need more content?

Many websites are actually company brochures that have been adapted to the web. They merely describe a bit about the company or service and then add some contact information. Such websites usually have about 5-10 separate html files. If these pages have a good amount of text it is possible to optimize them for several keywords and web surfers may find the site.

However, if these sites are in highly competitive fields then it may be difficult to build a decent amount of traffic because search engines try to find the most important web sites that can answer a search query. Search engine robots look for keywords in the meta tags and in the text on the pages to determine what the site is all about. However the search engines also look at the links on the various pages. If your main page is about bicycles, for example, and you have links to other pages on your site relating to the same theme, perhaps, racing bicycles, mountain bicycles etc. then the search engine will conclude that the site is about bicycles, and if you have a lot of pages on this theme, your site should rank higher than someone with a company brochure site of a few pages.

In addition, as I have pointed out in a previous article each page, with its content on your particular theme, stands out alone as a mini website in itself and may come up in searches on the Internet. Thus people will often enter your site through the “side” or “back doors” and not the main page. The more pages you have the more chances of being found in searches, and the more different keywords you can optimize your site for.

So, by building a content rich site on a particular theme, you will boost the chances of your main page to come up in searches and you will increase the likelihood of overall traffic through your other pages coming up in good positions in Internet keyword searches. In addition to this, the more content you have the more respect your page gets from human-edited directories (such as dmoz -Open Directory Project), and other webmasters.

If you have quality content then you swill get more link requests, requests for permission to reprint your articles in ezines, more links to specific pages on your site. All of this will result in more traffic.

How to build more content?

Depending on the type of products or services you are offering, there are several ways to build quality content for your site. Here are a few examples

Product Reviews- If you are selling other peoples products, through an affiliate system, rather than just listing a link to the product, you can write a full review of the product, explaining how the product helped you and what are its strengths and weaknesses. This kind of content actually pre-sells the product, as well as being interesting reading in itself. If you have your own products you could give background information on it or get satisfied customers or users to write the reviews.

Background information- Every product or service exists in some kind of context. Suppose you have a hotel in a particular city. Instead of only listing information about your hotel, you could give some pages about the history of the city where the hotel is located or information about popular tourist attractions in that area. The possibilities are enormous.

Questions and Answers. Let your web visitors help you in the process of content creation. Start a questions and answers section on your website or in your electronic newsletter. Not only will you get insight into what your clientele is thinking, but by answering these questions you will generate useful content for your site and for your newsletters.

Bulletin Board Forums- Your web visitors can also directly write the content on your site through a bulletin board. Some bulletin boards are searchable by search engine robots, while others are not. If you have good content on the bulletin board you can also re-publish it on the main sections of your website to insure inclusion in the search engines.

Articles by others- There is no need to recreate the wheel or spend a lot of time writing, if that is not your cup of tea! You can also publish the articles of other people. There is a lot of quality content that is available free of charge. While you usually have to provide a link back to the author of the article, this is a small price to pay considering that some of these articles may pull in tons of traffic.

Finally, if you are wondering how to arrange the increased content you have two main options. Some people actually build a second content-rich website to draw traffic and then direct visitors to their sales site. Another possibility is to add an articles section to your existing site, or simply to link the new pages to the particular product and service pages that are appropriate. Whichever option you choose, you can expect to see an increased flow of traffic as a result of the quality content that you have added to your website.

The robots.txt file

Filed under: Web Infos — admin @ 6:31 am

Since the beginning of Internet there is a need to index the Web
and many robots are built for this purpose. You already know
that famous Google bot which is indexing the Web to keep track
of urls and build a scheme out of it (link popularity
algorithm…).

There are not so many way to scan a website but some pages of a
website might not need to be crawled for any reasons such as
privacy…

A Standard for Robot Exclusion has been created and now
robots from search engines or others look forward the robots.txt
file before starting to scan a website. This file tells the
robots which links are allowed to be scanned and which links
shouldn’t be indexed.

A good resource about the robots.txt file is at this address:

http://www.robotstxt.org

The site publishes information about Web robots, you may be
interested by this site if you plan to create your own Bot or
learn more about their history.

Practice You may have noticed from your server logs the
presence of the robots.txt request from an ant, it throws a file
not exist error when you don’t have the robots.txt file. If you
just want to clean this from the log files then you need to
create this robots text file even if you make it empty.

The structure of this file is pretty simple, you can disallow
agents, you can disallow parts of your websites or only few
pages… Or you can deny everything or allow everything.

Here is an example from http://www.robotstxt.org:

User-agent: webcrawler Disallow:

User-agent: lycra Disallow: /

User-agent: * Disallow: /tmp Disallow: /log

The Webcrawler Bot can go anywhere. The second paragraph
indicates that the robot called ‘lycra’ has all relative URLs
starting with ‘/’ disallowed. Because all relative URL’s on a
server start with ‘/’, this means the entire site is closed off.

The third paragraph indicates that all other robots should not
visit URLs starting with /tmp or /log. Note the ‘*’ is a special
token, meaning “any other User-agent”; you cannot use wildcard
patterns or regular expressions in either User-agent or Disallow
lines.

Validator Once you are done with your robots.txt file you should
test it by using a robots.txt validator, there is one at this
address: Searchengineworld, robots check. The Searchengineworld
website provides also a more complete tutorial about the
robots.txt file.

Notes - The use of this file may reduce bandwidth consommation
by robots on your server. If you did disallow few pages, - It
also cleans a little bit your log files (1 line less by bots
scan), - The most important point is that this file is
recommended by Bots for duplicate websites. As you may get
penalties when you have duplicate sites, a solution is to deny
access to one side.

Specific Each Bot may act a little differently, so it’s advised
to check faqs from every bots to learn more about their indexing
behaviour, for instance for the Yahoo slurp Bot, you can check
this Url: Yahoo Slurp Index.

The Msn bot: MSN Bot The Google bot: Google Bot

Here is a database of webrobots : Webrobots

Warning There are hackers who search the robots.txt files for
directories and files which should not be scanned, they are also
called ‘bad robots’.

The solution is to either not mention the links and directories
to avoid or to put them in a special place where you add an
additional server protection.

Future of web agents Web agents job is becomming more and more
complex as the web grows, although technology is improving,
connections get faster and faster, cheaper and cheaper, cables
are getting busier and busier though.

There are heaps of websites geting online everydays and the web
agents must perform relevant indexing, do you remember the time
Google was crawling a new website in 1 day ?? I guess no !

I would not be surprised Web agents start to implement a kind of
selection and automatically avoid websites which are not HTML
valid… My advice: follow the rules, test your site, make it
conform with today’s search engines guidelines…

The robots.txt may help those agents understand your site, so
use it, that will reward you later.

Thanks for reading, i hope this article has been useful for some
of you.

Short Visit Syndrome: Does Your Company Suffer From It?

Filed under: Web Infos — admin @ 7:05 am

Imagine if half the people that called your sales team hung up within 10 seconds. Not people they were cold-calling but interested people calling them. Heads would roll. At the very least, you’d want to know why so many people were disengaging. Chances are it’s happening to you right now, every day. Your sales team isn’t the problem; it’s your most visible and active company representativethe website.

There’s an easy to measure, but often overlooked number that can tell you a great
deal about the effectiveness of your website. The ’short visit rate’ is the percentage
of visitors that leave your website within 10 seconds.

The percentage itself is not really important. Every website, every audience and
every industry is different. Even the most sophisticated websites can easily have 50
percent of visitors bailing early. What is important is what you’re doing to reduce
this number. Why? Because there is no cheaper way to repair the spout that feeds
your pipeline. While it may take months to test and correct your sales process,
telemarketing or direct mail efforts, the Web allows for rapid and cost-effective
testing. You can positively change your short visit rate in a few days, even a few
hours.

The Impact

If visitors to your site don’t stick around, they can’t request more information, take
the demo, sign up for the newsletter or do any of the things the site was designed
to make them do. It took considerable time and money to bring these visitors to
your site–each time one leaves, you’re squandering your general marketing and
advertising efforts and dollars. Worse, those visitors leaving are likely seeking
information or a solution elsewhere on the web. You’re helping create demand for
your competition.

The Cause

Short visits are usually a combination of two things–the wrong people coming and
your site’s inability to engage the visitor. This is particularly true when it comes to
traffic from search engines. Because these visitors are looking for something
specific (and usually in a hurry), it’s only logical that they would quickly bail if the
site doesn’t satisfy their needs.

What To Do About It

Luckily, we’re dealing with the web, where the data is rich and the adjustments are
easy. The first step is to see where you are. Ask your webmaster or web marketing
person to report on the percentage of both all visitors, and search visitors that are
leaving within 10 seconds. If they can’t get this information for you, enlist some
help or get a simple web traffic analysis tool, as this is basic data every
company should capture.

Once you get these numbers, don’t flip out. It’s just a baseline, a starting point
from which to improve. Ask yourself, ‘what might be causing these people to
leave?’. Visit your site in your prospect’s shoes. Might it be the non-differentiating
or overly technical message? Maybe the site just doesn’t look very professional.
Perhaps the majority of your prospects simply don’t like the color red. Most likely,
it’s the lack of any compelling reason to stay. If you don’t have something to grab
visitors’ attention and get them clicking for more, you can continue to expect poor
retention rates.

Sometimes I find it helpful with my clients to look at this problem from a traditional
point of view. What if this was a tradeshow booth? How could we get people to stay
at the booth longer? The key here is to work together with your sales and
marketing folks (notice we left the IT department out) to brainstorm and come to a
consensus as to what you suspect the single biggest problem might be. Once you
decide, have your webmaster make the necessary changes and measure the
difference. If you don’t get a whole lot of visits, it may take a long time to come to
a conclusion. This is where doing a quick pay-per-click advertising campaign can
come in real handy if for nothing else than to get some inexpensive market
research.

You’ve Got Nothing to Lose Except Business

It’s easy to dismiss this entire problem; after all, you probably didn’t know you had
a problem. And you can always add more sales reps and send out more mailers.
However, the ‘problem’ could actually be an opportunity in disguiseif you take
these first steps. You may be surprised how enthusiastic your web team and senior
management are about wanting to improve in this area. It is fun, challenging and,
unlike many other aspects of business, an effort that provides rapid and rich
feedback. Hold contests! Give the person or team that comes up with the most
dramatic improvement the corner office! He or she just made your company more
efficient and profitable.

Short-visit syndrome is something most executives don’t like to mention, let alone
talk about. Fortunately, confronting the issue head on and doing things to remedy
it is far less painful than you think and the results are well worth the effort.

from short-visit syndrome and other Internet marketing challenges. He has worked

B2B organizations. Todd’s website is http://www.miechiels.com

You Tube videos and clips

Ok first off , thanks for creating such a great site. I’ve been looking for a site like this for months. I have spent hours upon hours looking for something that could keep my entertained without taking up all my free time. I love the incredible selection of You Tube videos and clips you have. It helps to also have a very simple you use site, which is exactly what you have. I feel so luck to have found this amazing site that even features Youtube.com news. After all it is important to keep up with the news. Your provides me with new things to look at each and every day. I enjoy going to this site while on my break at work and seeing the new videos you have chosen. I often get tired of seeing the same videos each and every day. It’s so nice to go to your site and see an updated selection. Also your site is very user friendly. I am not very good with a computer but I know my way around. Your site is so easy to look at. Everything is on the first page. I honestly don’t have to search for miles for the page or clip I’m looking for. This is in a white color with very little marketing. There are no pop ups at all. I like the fact that I don’t have to see marketing at every end of this site. This makes me want to look at the content even more. I highly recommend this great site to anyone who enjoy looking at some crazy and funny youtube videos. This is a must to book mark on any bookmarking tool.

More accurate inkjet prints

Filed under: Web Infos — admin @ 2:59 pm

Chances are, you probably have one of those inkjet printers
catering to all your photo printing needs at home. If not, you
would probably want to have your print job done using the same
kind of printer.

Like all other types of printer, there are printing tips you
need to keep in mind to make the most out of inkjet printers.
What are these?

Tip number 1: Everything starts with a good scan.

Your print will only be as good as your original scan allows.
Most modern inkjet printers have the capability of producing 256
steps of density in each of its color channels when a
professional ink set and matched printer profile is employed.

Check not only resolution but also dynamic range of a scanner or
digital camera by comparing print output. This is particularly
noticeable when scanning for monochrome printing. Scan in RGB,
even when scanning for mono.

Always scan in RGB. Always print in RGB. Your inkjet printer
driver does not process CMYK or Grayscale mode as efficiently.

Adjust your print to portrait format before going to print. The
fewer tasks you ask the print driver to perform, the faster your
print will be.

Tip number 2: Try to use mini test prints.

Know that Image editing software is a very efficient way to ruin
good images.

One of the most common digital printing errors is to over-adjust
your image because you may only notice a change in appearance on
your monitor after a fairly course adjustment.

Oftentimes, extremely subtle adjustments are all that is
required to optimize your printed image. Remember that your
printer is very sensitive to small changes, whereas your monitor
may only show larger adjustments due to the more ‘’sluggish”
nature of the color phosphors in some monitors.

A great way to accurately gauge the print output change to a
small adjustment is to produce miniature test prints.

Reduce the size of your print file to A6 size without
re-sampling. Make a note of the original image resolution. Print
a mini test print of the raw scan as test print number one.
Carry out subtle changes as required, each time checking the
result with another mini test print. Inspect your test prints at
a few inches distance.

When you are happy with your final test print, go back to your
original print size by entering the original ppi resolution.
Your will find that the finished print is a close match if held
at arm’s length, compared to your test print viewed close up.

This method is very economical on ink, paper and time, allowing
you to enhance an image with far greater accuracy than relying
on the monitor alone.

Web Analytics: Make A Plan. And Stick To It.

Filed under: Web Infos — admin @ 9:17 pm

When it comes to analyzing your web site statistics, what’s
infinitely more important than the numbers themselves is the
actual trend that they portray. If you’re trying to build
traffic to a web site (and who isn’t these days?) then your
first concern should be that the numbers are increasing on a
regular basis.

To properly watch those numbers, and know when you need to make
adjustments, you should not depend on analyzing statistics that
have been logged over time. Instead, you should make a daily,
weekly and monthly schedule to look over certain statistics.

For example, you may want to watch daily trends in traffic and
page views so that any trend lasting more than a couple of days
can be immediately addressed.

Once a week, you might want to look at how many hits you’re
getting via search engines.

And, perhaps, once per month you’ll want to look at how many
page views per visit are being generated by search-engines
versus links, versus direct traffic.

If you’re running pay-per-click advertising, it’s even more
important to track your clicks and where they come from on a
regular basis. Small changes can easily lead to large
disruptions in your income flow.

In the end, you’ll need to decide for yourself which stats you
should analyze daily, weekly and monthly according to your own
site goals. Once you’ve decided which are the most important
statistics to track regularly, write down a daily, weekly and
monthly to-do list.

Make that plan, stick to it, and youll find yourself infinitely
more in touch with your site. Youll think about creating
solutions to your challenges more often. And, in all likelihood,
you’ll find yourself dealing with a more and more successful web
site.

Top Ten Website Design Secrets for Internet Marketing Success

Filed under: Web Infos — admin @ 8:51 pm

When it comes to marketing your website, you should really work
on the design of your site and optimize it so it makes you the
maximum amount of money per visitor as possible. The design of
your website is very important and plays a huge role in your
website’s success or failure. Consider the following tips when
designing your website:

Secret #1 - Clear Writing

It is very important when you write copy, or have copy written
by a professional, that it be very clear and to the point. You
do not want visitors to have to guess what your site is about,
you want to make it clear up front.

Secret #2 - Include Links

Include links to other websites that have indirectly related
products. Then, have the websites you link to link to your
website as well. This will really help you out with improved
search engine rankings and is well worth the effort.

Secret #3 - Make Graphics Small

You want your web pages to load quickly so avoid using large,
detailed graphics that will slow the loading time of your
website down. Most people won’t wait for large images to load
and will simply move on to a competitor’s web site. It does not
matter how great the graphic is if nobody ever sees it so keep
this in mind when designing your website.

Secret #4 - Free Tools are Available

There are many free tools available on the Internet to help you
design your website. Utilize these tools to create a
professional website that attracts as many customers as
possible.

Secret #5 - Be Persuasive

Always be persuasive in the copy you provide on your website.
People are visiting to decide whether or not to buy from you so
make sure that you persuade them to stay on your site and make
their purchase from you.

Secret #6 - Use Text More Than Images

Use more text than pictures and graphics. There are two reasons
for this. Reason number one is text loads quicker than graphics
and people are not going to stick around a long time waiting for
your website to open. Reason number two is that search engines
rank your website on its text or content, not images. You need
good quality content that will make the search engines rank your
pages high.

Secret #7 - Organization

When designing your website, it is important to keep it very
well organized so that your visitors will be able to find
exactly what they are looking for quickly. If you do not design
your website with organization in mind you will lose customers.

Secret #8 - Include Valuable Information

Make sure all valuable information is readily available.
Anything a customer might need should be included on the
website, from phone numbers to directions or any other important
information.

Secret #9 - Focus on Prospective Client’s Needs

Throughout your website and copy you want to focus on your
client’s needs and how you can solve their problems with your
services and products. Nobody is going to your website to learn
about how you got started, they’re looking to buy your products.
Focus on this to increase your conversion rates and boost your
income.

Secret #10 - Banner Exchanges

Exchange banners with other websites in order to make your page
look more professional and to increase your visitors.

Advice On How To Obtain An Internet Presence On The Cheap

Filed under: Web Infos — admin @ 6:35 pm

We are all looking for the cheapest way of obtaining an internet prescence. This article describes how and where to find a quality but cheap web design company.

If you would like a website it is worth realising that website design is a very competitive area and there are many people and companies who offer web design services. There is therefore no reason that you should be expected to pay a large amount of money for your website.

Myu advice is that the first place to try is the internet search engines. You have the option of the paid adverts or the real results which normally appear on the left hand results on search engines such as Google. The results on the left hand side are normally the more established companies who however will probably try to charge a lot of money for their services.

I have heard of a number of people who have had great success on auction websites such as ebay. People or companies at times offer their services for a very cheap rate, normally to drum up some very much needed business.

Other areas to look are in places like the yellow pages, newspapers or by asking family or friends.

I myself know of many people offering expert web building skills who only charge between £50 and £100 per website. There are many great deals to be had out there for people who are willing to make lots of phone calls or send lots of e-mails and who are patient.

When finding a company or person to build the website always take a look at their portfolio as this will give you an insight into the work they do. Obviously if you are not impressed, there is no point in carrying on, even if it is very cheap.

Building Your First Website?

Filed under: Web Infos — admin @ 6:16 pm

Building your first website to begin your journey as online entrepreneur? But you have no experience on how to kick start it? Not to worry, and you should not be too worry even if your website is not as “Fanciful” compare to others which look impressive.

However, not being a web design expert or HTML is not an acceptable excuse for building up a website that’s half done. It is the impression that you are going to give to your valuable visitors. Follow these simple basic and you should not be far for a successful website:-

1. Keep it simple
Yes, do keep it simple. Forgo the fancy feature that you see in other “Big” sites. IF you are not aware, let me share with you this: Some of the successful sites are simple in design. Don’t overload your visitors with too many fancy features that you also would get lost in your own site.

And beware, build your website step by step, don’t simply go and try to build a website with hundreds if not thousands of pages. It will drive you crazy. Build 5 to 10 pages initially, expand it to 50 or more eventually. At the end, you could see your website with hundreds of pages. Nevertheless, it is advisable not to go beyond one thousand pages so that you could still manage it comfortably.

2. Throw away excessive Animation.
Avoid those things that move and block your browsing experience. Ask yourself the question of whether you feel uneasy when those flashy things keep blocking your view?

Furthermore, these flash features might take longer time to load. It means your visitors might just go away while waiting for it to complete loading. Hey, nobody online likes to wait. Time is not on our side. Visitors want to get what they want fast, and real fast. If you take own sweet time to present whatever “Great” thing you are offering, your visitors will eventually lose the interest in it while waiting too long.

3. Use a ready made script.
Get a ready made script and install it on your host server. There are lots of useful scripts out there online. What’s a script? I not too sure how to explain it, but I just know it will save me lots of precious time in building my website. Like most of us, I’m new too. I just wanted to get a website up and running.

Do you need to spend lot money to get those scripts? NO. There are lots of useful yet FREE scripts. For your info, some of my sites are built with these free scripts too. I know very well I don’t know much about HTML or so, thus I just install it on my host server and build my website from there. Run a search for “FREE SCRIPT” on any search engine, you’ll find lots of information on this topic.

For early stage in website building, I suggest that you use the “PHP” type of script. Don’t ask me what is “PHP”? I am not techie too. But I tried it and it is so simple that I am now starting to learn how to modify the script myself.

4. Use a template and customize it.
Yes, use it. Don’t ever try to build a new website with a brand new template all by your self, especially for your first ever website. Trust me, it will take forever to complete. I tried it, and I know. Building a website from scratch for a newbie like me will simply take forever.

Browse online to pick the one the looks simple yet easy to customize. Yes, you can learn to customize it, but advisable not beyond that. You can customize the font, color, height and width, put in some table or similar features, just don’t try to do the fancy type like others. They spend great resources in getting it done.

5. Visualize Your Visitor Path and provide guides.
Yes, you ought to know where your visitors will be browsing thru your site, the path and so on. From there, your task is to build and provide an easy browsing experience to your valuable visitors.

Do guide your visitors when they arrive at your site. Don’t let them lost their way. Lead them to what they are looking for. Be it an information they trying to search for, or a product they are looking to purchase. Give a clear guide and site’s path to what visitors want. Unless you want to lose them, then you could just ignore this advice and load your website with all kind of information until you also lose in it.

6. Watch your expenses.
Even if you can manage to follow the above and build your website all by yourself - It is time to get helps. Hire somebody to do the job. There are plenty of good designers who will perform the tasks for you for a reasonable price package. Spell out your requirements before hand and get all the support that you need.

Watch your expenses closely. You should not be spending much in getting your first website up and running. Remember, although it is critical to get your website looks and runs as good, you should not be spending too much before the website generate steady income for you.

Viewing thru all the above mentioned basic guides, I truly wish you have a successful online venture. Just remember, a poorly built website is going to lose you business. Don’t fall into the trap of fanciful websites. What you need is to build a successful online business empire. That’s your aim and mine too.
