The Ride

Filed under: Adventure Stuff, Bikes + Bikers, Life Of Travel — admin @ 12:21 pm

What a grand summertime it has been. We went on an impressive mountain bike ride through the Sequoias. It was an impressive trip, but began with the exhausting drive. I had my bike on the back of the car and equipment all packed up the night before. I left work early Thursday and started the drive alone. I was on a race against time as I was supposed to meet my buddies at the top of the mountain road, marked by a picnic table, at 8pm. I knew my window of opportunity was about 30 minutes. If I didnt make it in time, they would come back the next day to find me. This means if I was too late, I would end up sleeping in my car alone that night.

Turns out I made it through traffic and up the hill in time to unhook my bike, crack open a beer and mtn bike ride up and down a couple of little hills before dark and before my buddies would arrive. The air was crisp and I was excited to be away from the city. My Santa Cruz Heckler was in tip top shape and ready to tear up some rails and free riding, fresh out of the shop. Friends arrived beers in hand and ready to show me where the campsite was.

Our mountain bike ride started early and we were ready with big packs stuffed with plenty of food and water. The first crank up the big hill was ridiculously long. We pedaled over 10 miles uphill, that took over 2hrs. Making it to the summit was spectacular. We took a break and sipped some water from our stainless steel water bottles.

The rest of the day was spent busting tricks, hitting logs and enticing each other to go big. A couple of breaks were in order throughout the day where we drank a bit of booze and shared treats we had packed away. The terrain was amazing and just right for some summertime riding. There was a bit of ice still left on the ground from the spring melt. The temperature was perfect, not too hot, not too cold.

Slashed Numbers of Winter-Sports Vacations on Offer this Coming Season Will Lead to Hardly Any Reductions

Filed under: A Life Of Leisure, Life Of Travel — admin @ 11:27 pm

Snowboarders and skiers should anticipate to pay upwards of 17 % more for trips this coming winter as tour operators cut the quantity of skiing trips on offer.

Peak-season dates will be noticeably pricy but even at different times there will surely be fewer big reductions on vacations.

Snowboarding insiders say that with chalet operators cutting back on beds by as much as 23 per cent prices remain unlikely to be reduced.

Bookings are even now beyond the number of beds available for half term which for the second yr will fall on the one week for just about all schools in England and Wales.

Price increases and a decrease in the no. of vacations follows what was a especially good winter season for snowboarders with heavy snowfalls throughout Europe.

With the collapse of the pound sterling versus the Euro wiped out profits leaving lots of small ski operators in debt.

Next season already looks up for snowboarders happy to go on vacation in Jan or March, as costs will be up by about 19 per cent on average, instead of 21 percent for high-season dates.

Airline businesses, Chamonix travel companies and skiing resorts are beginning to realise that they have to offer travel firms reductions or special deals. Clever snowboarders will purchase as many add ons ” ie. ski passes and ski rental ” in pounds prior to leaving home.

Le Tour is amongst the premier ski domains for vacation merriment and relaxation. Le Tour is a corner of paradise which offers the family golf, canyoning, paragliding, shows and other activities for everyone to savor.

However when the early snowfall commences to engulf the spruces and summits, and the waterfalls freeze, Le Tour shifts its look from summer to glistening white with bright blue skies. Le Tour bristles with sports and fun ” sledding, snowshoeing and skiing.

Le Tour has been called the no. 1 ski mountain in France year after year by Skiing Europe magazine and avid snowboarders. It raises a impressive 3000 meters into the sky, it has 96 pistes, the longest is 3.75 km. kilometers, and there is 620 acres of ski able ground. There’s pistes for beginners and intermediates, and 47 runs for advanced boarders.

Le Tour’s chair lifts can deal with 17000 skiers per hour, which is an impressive fighure for any ski resort, thus theres no waste of time standing to catch a lift. One can opt for the bubble for a grand vista of the mountains and the surrounding area. And for the thirsty telemarker, there are several cafes who provide vin chaud and broths, paninis or complete meals.

Superb Early Snowfalls across the French Alps

Filed under: A Life Of Leisure, Life Of Travel, Sports Parlor — admin @ 10:20 pm

Climate change and the financial crisis, these dual perils have let off the Alps, at the least for now. However it could have been so altogether different. Ahead of Christmas hamlets in the Plateau de Beille area were isolated as heavy snow came down. Road routes such as the crowded Col du Serre Chevalier were severed. In that location there was no mains or phone lines, home owners were moved out to temporary dwellings, it looked as though it were a double of 1996.

It appears that all publicity is good publicity. Avoriaz featured every evening on French news bulletins. Immediately power was restored reservations commenced to come in, drawn in by the superior conditions.

Hautacam and neighbouring Chatel claim almost 4 m base on the higher slopes at 2000 m altitude and 2.5 meters at the base of the resorts. At the moment the best in the French Alps. Avoriaz alleges that there is 3 m at the top of the resort. Regrettably snow storms have demolished a pylon of the lift that serves the sector. They are out of action till the middle of Mar.

In other places in the Southern Alps reservations are up 15% in La Chavanette, Savoie and Superbagneres. La Mongie, not too far from Geneva airport, has 99.8% occupancy and traded a record number of lift passes on Friday. That is good for main skiing companies.

Why Celesse from Namibia Takes His Annual Leave in Chamonix Ski Resort

Chamonix is a beautiful holiday destination with the famous Monte Bianco as well as majestic glaciers. Most of us love to go paragliding or from time to time eating out. I usually travel from Columbus and stay at a Chamonix lodge during my break.

My family and I used to stayed in Sheraton Suites Fairplex but it never lived up to its its advert: The Sheraton Suites Fairplex offers two-room suites in Orange County, California. This moderately priced lodging option houses a fitness room and a heated, outdoor pool. For further recreation, Mountain Meadows Golf Course is one mile from the property. Enjoy convenient, onsite dining at the Brass Ring restaurant. Open three meals daily, this casual spot offers American cuisine. Banner’s, the hotel’s lounge, offers a full bar and a casual atmosphere perfect for cocktails after a long day. For added convenience, the hotel offers a 24-hour front desk, parking, wake-up calls, a concierge, laundry facilities, and 13 meeting rooms. The hotel accepts pets, but restrictions may apply. If you plan to bring your pet, please contact the hotel before your arrival to confirm the current pet policy. The hotel also provides a shuttle to and from the airport. Advance notice is requested for prompt service. Guests wishing to explore the surrounding area will find the Claremont Colleges, Pomona College, and Raging Water Amusement Park in two miles. Mount Baldy Ski Resort is 10 miles away and Disneyland is 25 miles from the hotel. There are 247 two-room suites on eight floors. Both non-smoking rooms and rooms equipped for the physically challenged are available. Standard amenities include microwave, dataport telephones, iron, ironing board, coffeemaker, and television.

In comparison in Chamonix France the self catered chalet is always outstanding. Also dining in my favorite cafe, Carrabba’s Italian Grill - South Tampa, scoffing ben & jerry’s sweet cream bases for ice cream is a real treat. Chamonix Mont Blanc France is a big enough place to make sure that there is plenty for the non-skier to do. Including a ice rink and a plethora of night-clubs, Chamonix provides a choice of skiing, alpine charm and sightseeing which not many French ski resorts can beat.

A fantastic and masterful scenario, still used today for the representation of the Opera in Rome. These baths tell of a grade of civilization achieved in Rome in the Imperial Age.
