In Part Due to the Global Recession Many Ski Companies Will Be Cutting down Their Number of Luxury Catered Ski Chalets

Filed under: A Life Of Leisure, Life Of Travel — admin @ 3:08 pm

Thanks to the credit crunch snowboarding reservations dropped last season.

In spite of strong early on bookings coupled with great skiing.

These drops in skiers follows on from 7 seasons of continuous growth within the ski industry, and the numbers contracted from one million in 2008/9 to less than a million last winter.

Perhaps due to snowboarders giving the season a miss, while additional snowboarders who’d usually take two or more snowboarding trips, only took the one.

Sales for the independent travel sector fell by 15% and a few low priced airlines reducing the amount of airplanes to several cities.

Tour operators witnessed the numbers going down by around 15%.

Notwithstanding, the top 6 tour operators share stayed at 72% and skiing holidays France continued to remain the top skiing destination with nearly 40% of the English ski market.

Due to this a lot of ski operators lowered the amount of chalets they operate this year.

The catered chalet markets will surely see a drop in clients in light of the fact that a luxury catered chalet costs more for the tour operator in terms of staff and rental if it is not sold.

It is unlikely therefore we shall benefit from the last minute special offers that were around last year.

And costs are probably going to to augment, prices are unlikely to rise considerably.

The Ride

Filed under: Adventure Stuff, Bikes + Bikers, Life Of Travel — admin @ 12:21 pm

What a grand summertime it has been. We went on an impressive mountain bike ride through the Sequoias. It was an impressive trip, but began with the exhausting drive. I had my bike on the back of the car and equipment all packed up the night before. I left work early Thursday and started the drive alone. I was on a race against time as I was supposed to meet my buddies at the top of the mountain road, marked by a picnic table, at 8pm. I knew my window of opportunity was about 30 minutes. If I didnt make it in time, they would come back the next day to find me. This means if I was too late, I would end up sleeping in my car alone that night.

Turns out I made it through traffic and up the hill in time to unhook my bike, crack open a beer and mtn bike ride up and down a couple of little hills before dark and before my buddies would arrive. The air was crisp and I was excited to be away from the city. My Santa Cruz Heckler was in tip top shape and ready to tear up some rails and free riding, fresh out of the shop. Friends arrived beers in hand and ready to show me where the campsite was.

Our mountain bike ride started early and we were ready with big packs stuffed with plenty of food and water. The first crank up the big hill was ridiculously long. We pedaled over 10 miles uphill, that took over 2hrs. Making it to the summit was spectacular. We took a break and sipped some water from our stainless steel water bottles.

The rest of the day was spent busting tricks, hitting logs and enticing each other to go big. A couple of breaks were in order throughout the day where we drank a bit of booze and shared treats we had packed away. The terrain was amazing and just right for some summertime riding. There was a bit of ice still left on the ground from the spring melt. The temperature was perfect, not too hot, not too cold.

Slashed Numbers of Winter-Sports Vacations on Offer this Coming Season Will Lead to Hardly Any Reductions

Filed under: A Life Of Leisure, Life Of Travel — admin @ 11:27 pm

Snowboarders and skiers should anticipate to pay upwards of 17 % more for trips this coming winter as tour operators cut the quantity of skiing trips on offer.

Peak-season dates will be noticeably pricy but even at different times there will surely be fewer big reductions on vacations.

Snowboarding insiders say that with chalet operators cutting back on beds by as much as 23 per cent prices remain unlikely to be reduced.

Bookings are even now beyond the number of beds available for half term which for the second yr will fall on the one week for just about all schools in England and Wales.

Price increases and a decrease in the no. of vacations follows what was a especially good winter season for snowboarders with heavy snowfalls throughout Europe.

With the collapse of the pound sterling versus the Euro wiped out profits leaving lots of small ski operators in debt.

Next season already looks up for snowboarders happy to go on vacation in Jan or March, as costs will be up by about 19 per cent on average, instead of 21 percent for high-season dates.

Airline businesses, Chamonix travel companies and skiing resorts are beginning to realise that they have to offer travel firms reductions or special deals. Clever snowboarders will purchase as many add ons ” ie. ski passes and ski rental ” in pounds prior to leaving home.
