Filed under: Great Video Tips, Markets + Marketing, Multimedia + More — Tags: , , , — admin @ 12:13 am

When clear speech is heard it is appealing to the ear. It is the result of optimal use of the vocal cords. Attaining clarity is is crucial when giving a lecture. It’s also important in our everyday conversation. To gain mastery of use of our vocal cords requires practice.Speaking clearly is something that we’ve had to work on during the pursue the passion tour because most of the people don’t know what to expect when we walk through the door. So the professionalism point has really been a focal point.

Clear Speech: Exercise

  • Talking properly is in component based on pronunciation. It is the appropriate use of vocal cords, mouth, tongue, lungs and mind
  • Indistinct speech can result from slurring words and phrases, talking inside a muffled voice, running words and phrases together, dropping endings and just failure to enunciate phrases or groups of words and phrases

Tense Voice, Big Pitch

  • The other end of the spectrum is a distressed voice. Some have developed a habit of speaking in a distressed voice as part of their normal conversation. It is hard to describe but when you hear someone do it, you will know it.
  • The speech as compared with resonating in the mouth, comes from the throat and sounds deeper, raspy, and forced. So even though you have clear speech, it is indistinct
  • What does it sound like? What does it feel like? That is a distressed voice. The solution is simple, just breathe. Breathe adequate for your speaking. Clear speech requires adequate lungs
  • Speaking clearly is something that we’ve had to work on during the pursue the passion tour because most of the people don’t know what to expect when we walk through the door. So the professionalism point has really been a focal point.
  • Slurring words or running them together can be the result of a learned behavior or cultural behavior. It also consists of dropping syllables indiscriminately or like a cultural norm. These need to be corrected to to converse clearly and distinctly.

LadyBug Bullet MAV

Filed under: Great Video Tips — admin @ 10:54 pm

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles or UAVs are all the rage and what started out as a military endeavor as drones decades ago is now a technology which can be used for just about anything. The newest thing in UAVs is miniaturization, that is to say building UAVs, which are smaller than radio controlled model aircraft. In fact so small that they could fly along side a hummingbird or dragon fly and make you do a double take. They call these tiny UAVs; Micro-Air Vehicles or MAVs. If you look at a Lady Bug sometime you will find that it is a really unique design. It is a little round bug most of the time then extends its wings to fly. What if we designed a Lady Bug Micro-Air vehicle and copied nature’s design? There are many advantages to launching a Lady Bug shaped MAV.

By using the design of the Lady Bug which nature developed over some 200-million years or so, we can allow the MAV to be protected by its own wings. I propose we launch Lady Bug shaped MAV like the old wide mouth WWII vintage flare guns. Send them up and as the friction of the air heats up the wings they start to open and by the time the Lady Bug bullet shape reaches the top of the arch of its trajectory, the wings pop open and it flies away already at altitude. Then it can fly around, give you a bird’s eye view pick a target and then ask the shooter to press Y or N on their little handheld PDA device like a 1.5 way old Alphanumeric Pager. Y for yes, kill that target or N for no, keep searching for a new target. Once it is given the green light to attack target it will simply fly over to the target and then explode. This could be a very good innovation for our troops to protect them from the enemy. Think on this.

Get Ready To Witness Your Dreams On the Computer!

Filed under: Great Video Tips — admin @ 12:05 am

Imagine a computer on which you can see your dreams, analyze every thought process that goes on inside your brain and every sense you feel. Imagine that your memory is on the computer’s hard disk. If your entire brain can be mapped onto the computer, your thoughts can become immortal. Seems like a fantasy, doesn’t it? May be not anymore. The brain remains the most complex and mysterious part of the human anatomy.

To help solve this mystery, on sixth of June 2005, IBM in collaboration with EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne), announced the most ambitious project to date for brain research and rightly called it the Blue Brain Project. The project aims to create a detailed model of the circuitry in the neocortex - the largest and the most complex part of the human brain. By expanding the project to model other areas of the brain, scientists hope to eventually build an accurate computer based model of the entire brain. The first phase of the Blue Brain Project which involves making a software replica of the neocortex ( almost 85% of the brain’s total mass) is expected to take two to three years. The next phase of the project which includes simulating the entire brain will take at least a decade.

The Blue Brain Project will make use of IBM’s eServer Blue Gene supercomputer. Blue Gene was recently rated as the fastest supercomputer in the world. It has a peak speed of about 22.8 teraflops which means it can theoretically spit out 22.8 trillion floating point operations every second. Certain computer simulations that require a full day of research and calculations can be done in a matter of seconds on Blue Gene. In a real brain, a neocortical column is a cylindrical element about a third of a millimetre in diameter and three millimetres long, containing some 10,000 nerve cells. It is these columns which make up the famous “grey matter”. The EPFL’s contribution to the Blue Brain Project will be to create a digital description of how the columns behave. The Blue Gene supercomputer consists of enough independent processors for each to be programmed to emulate an individual nerve cell in a column. Blue Gene architecture has 8000 Processors and by mapping one or two simulated brain neurons to each processor, the computer will become a silicon replica of 10,000 neurons. Then scientists will interconnect them with the rules that they have worked out about how the brain functions. The result will be a full-fledged model of 10,000 neurons jabbering back and forth, a simulation 1,000 times larger than any similar model to date. Biologists and computer scientists will collaborate to connect the artificial nerve cells up in a way that mimics nature. They will do so by assigning electrical properties to them, and telling them how to communicate with each other and how they should modify their connections with one another depending on their activity.

After the first phase of Blue Brain Project is completed, scientists will be able to study the functions of neocortex in language, learning and complex thought. When the second phase is completed and the entire brain has been modelled, it will also shed light on other internal processes such as perception, memory and senses. Moreover, by running accurate simulations of brain processes, scientists will be able to investigate questions about psychiatric disorders and how they arise, Scientists believe that autism, schizophrenia, depression, and other psychological problems are caused by defective or malfunctioning circuitry in the brain.

Scientists around the globe have conflicting opinions on what the researchers hope to achieve with this project. Some just don’t realise the gravity of the proejct and feel mapping a brain onto a computer is meaningless. Some academics, such as Roger Penrose of Oxford University, argue that brains do not work in a way comparable with a computer, so any kind of simulation that is built on digital architecture and uses traditional programming techniques is bound to failure. Henry Markram, the head of the Brain Mind Institute, and the leader of the EPFL’s side of the project, stresses that Blue Brain’s formal goal is not to build an artificial intelligence system, such as a neural network but to make a computer simulated model of the human brain.

Well, if the Blue Brain Project turns out to be successful, we could soon be gearing towards a real ‘Matrix.’ The bigger question that we need to ask is: What if something goes drastically wrong and the machines take over the human brain, wouldn’t this bring us one step closer to annihilation?

The History Channel Moves into the Future

Filed under: Great Video Tips — admin @ 9:41 am

Many people spend hours watching and learning on Television. There is the Discovery Channel, Science Channel, History Channel, Wings, Animal Channel and a host of others and they are indeed very interesting to watch. Some say if you watched all the history channel programs that you might know more about history that most High School History Teachers. Since I like many others have, I concur that to be the case.

But why not take the History Channel and the other Discovery type channels to the next level in technology? You see Holographic Technologies are getting closer to becoming reality and soon we can see holographic projections in our living rooms via computers and in home systems, watch our shows in 3D, 4D and 5D.

We will enjoy Augmented and Virtual Reality on our 360 X-Box or Sony Play Stations in our own homes. We can watch home movies of weddings and graduations in 3D and perhaps great grandchildren will be about to meet their past ancestors and watch a holographic video. We will be communicating in business using full motion holographic video conferencing with the image of the other people sitting next us, but not actually there. All this is on its way and even more, as the applications are endless indeed.

Just imagine watching the history channel in the cockpit with Charles Lindbergh or sitting next to the historical notables during the signing of the Magna Carta; crossing the Delaware with George Washington or standing on the moon with Neil Armstrong as he utters those famous words; “one small step for man, one giant step for mankind!”

There is probably no better use of the technology than to educate our populations in their own homes and thus making a smarter and more intelligent set of voters to prevent us from repeating the past and dooming our future in a never ending cycle of our own follies. Think on this.

2006 Trends in Material Sciences to Protect Space Endeavors

Filed under: Great Video Tips — admin @ 11:59 pm

In 2005 NASA Scientists saw some huge solar storms and dangerous solar flares, during what is suppose to be a low point in the 22-year solar cycle. There was damage to some satellites and the ISS International Space Station was on high alert. Many Satellite companies were also on edge knowing that their multi-million dollar communications systems were in danger of damage or complete failure. Space radiation is a serious problem for astronauts, space colonies, space stations and future space travelers. Without adequate protection from space radiation, long-term multi-generational space exploration flights will not be possible.

In 2006 new materials will be introduced which will inhibit space radiation. New coatings will also solve these issues to protect systems from harm and decay of habitats, equipment and electronics in space. New designs of space colonies will include water storage supplies between the human occupants and the outside. Titanium will be mined on the moon and plans will be brought forth to make spaceship skin of this metal to prevent the space radiation from affecting the crew. Scientists will continue to make elements, which do not exist here on Earth but are thought to be stable once created, which will be able to protect against radiation due to their high period table numbers. Think on this in 2006.
