They Google Your Name Every Day!
Personal names are being googled in large numbers
It is not just company and product names that are searched for in Google and other search engines. Personal names are also in the “danger zone,” and it can be an extremely serious matter to end up in Google with some inappropriate results on your name.We can agree that the name John Smith is not as sensitive as e.g. Thomas Rosenstand - the author of the famous SEO Book SEO-LEX. But remember, as more and more people buy themselves a new and special name, the more unusual the name is the greater the risk for inappropriate search results.I always Google the names of people I deal with commercially.
I know enough about search engines to be able to filter the results afterwardsbut not everyone has those skills. That is why it is important for all companies whose management, sale persons and others are exposed to make sure that there is no room for inappropriate stories in the search engines, and you do this by being visible on your own initiative. We keep seeing undesirable examples where several year old stories still dominate the search results for personal names. And it is quite often not fair.
Now imagine a managing director who in 2002 was suspected in a case of insider trading and therefore was mentioned in all the leading newspapers. He is acquitted 6 months later and the newspapers might bring a small notice about it, which is how they work. You will still find the stories about insider trading in the top 5 spot on Google when searching for his name 5 years later. It is not fun, it is not fair, but it is reality.
