Although as of late new home construction has slowed dramatically in the Atlanta area, commercial refrigerators seem to be gaining in popularity in newly built homes. Some of the key differences between “residential” and “commercial” refrigerators include the size (commercial refrigerators are typically larger), construction (commercial are often “heavy duty” and designed to be more durable and last longer), style (commercial may feature glass to allow you to see the contents), features (many commercial refrigerators will feature an external thermometer to allow you to monitor the temperature) and warranty (commercial refrigerators, due to their increased cost, will often have a longer warranty).
Why are many Atlanta homeowners installing commercial refrigerators instead of residential refrigerators? This is part of a nationwide trend towards “professional” kitchens that has affected not only the choice of refrigerator, but also the oven, stove/range, counter top appliances like blenders, food processors, etc., pots and pans and the general design of kitchens (sinks, counters, center islands, etc.) With the increased popularity of cooking, cooking shows, and the culinary arts in general, the desirability of a “professional” kitchen has increased.
