Helpful Tips for Baby Care

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:55 am

So many car accidents take place and many babies get injured and even lose their lives because of negligence on their parent’s part. According to a survey it has been recorded that most of the accidents that take place are not even properly restrained which means using baby safety car seats could have prevented many of their deaths. And while it may seem as if most of these tragedies resulted from fiery highway collisions, the truth is that 75 percent of car accidents happen within 25 miles of home, and 60 percent of them happen on streets where the speed limit is 40 mph or less.

Types of Baby car seats:

There are three types of baby safety seats available:

• Baby car seats: These type of seats face the rear of the car and have a 20-lb. weight limit.

• Convertible or Infant-toddler car seats: These seats function as both rear-facing infant seats and forward-facing seats. They are designed to hold a baby of up to 30 or 35 lbs. It is advisable to leave your baby rear-facing as long as he can take it.

• Belt-positioning booster seats: These seats are for kids who are older, about 3 years and weigh about 40 pounds. Here the regular in-car shoulder belt to secure the child is used.

For the sake of your child’s safety you should try to become an expert at installing a car seat correctly. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the most common mistakes that people make with the car seats are threading the seat belts through the wrong slots, ignoring to use a locking clip when you are required to, failing to buckle in the child, and installing the seat too loosely. Keep in mind that a correctly installed seat will not be able to move more than an inch forward or to either side, so this way your child’s safety is assured even if any untoward incidents take place.

Traveling tips:

Given below are some safety tips that you should follow when traveling with your child:

• Read the manufacturer’s directions carefully and always follow them when placing your baby in the crib.

• Never exceed the recommended weight limits.

• Don’t forget to fasten all loops and buckles

• Always carry extra water, a first aid kit and a cell phone so you can contact someone in an emergency.

• Do not use the baby crib if it starts showing signs of excessive wear or tear.

While buying a car seat, know that the best and safest car seat for your baby would be the one that fits your vehicle well. Installation is important. No matter which car seat you buy, even the cheapest has passed the basic car crash test and when installed properly will provide safety for your child. Choose a seat that depending on your child’s weight, height and age.

And while traveling with your baby always carry some water, sun protection cream and some extra clothes so that you are sure that your baby has everything that he needs.

Handling Pressure

Filed under: Gambling Hall, The Fun Universe, Web Of Games — admin @ 10:49 am

Take a look at every online poker pro that you see, and you’ll start to notice a pattern in their mannerisms. While they’re playing poker or other casino games, the vast majority of them are calm, composed, and apparently unflappable. Whether there’s five or five hundred dollars in the pot, the best players are stone-faced pros.

This ability to handle pressure is what separates the best players from the rest…it’s the ability to stay in the same mind frame regardless of how much money is at stake, and regardless of how the cards are treating you. When I play poker online, I look forward to finding the player who loses his mind when the cards don’t go his way. When someone freaks out because he is outdrawn, then I can count on him playing more recklessly than if he kept his composure.

When you play, don’t let to pressure get to you. Concentrate on playing good poker and you’ll know that you did everything that you could. Stick to the fundamentals-play the right cards, know your odds, and never leave money on the table. It helps to know that you played mistake-free when the cards don’t go your way, and sticking to the game plan will help you maximize your profits when the cards do go your way.

Babies are Amazing!

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 3:31 am

When you hold a newborn baby, in so many ways it appears to be tiny and helpless. It’s hard to believe that a baby is in fact a highly developed being. Perhaps they haven’t learnt how to put everything together yet, but all the building blocks are there, just waiting to be put to use.

One of the most amazing things about a baby is the amount of instinctive reflexes a baby has. A health professional will check these reflexes, because their presence shows that baby’s central nervous system is working properly.

These reflexes exist to help nurture your baby, as well as protect him. Most reflexes last only for the first few weeks, and will gradually be replaced by voluntary, controlled movements as baby’s development progresses.

Search Reflex

If you gently touch your baby’s cheek with a finger or breast, baby will instinctively turn that way and open his mouth, ready for food. After about 12 weeks this reflex disappears, which is probably just as well! Mind you, sometimes when a toddler is being fussy about food, mouth closed, arms crossed, it would be nice to gently tap him on the cheek with the spoon and watch his mouth open.

Sucking Reflex

Another reflex designed to help nurture your baby. If you place a clean finger in baby’s mouth, he will start to suck on it. This sucking reflex is essential for feeding in the early months, although by the time solids are introduced it has usually disappeared. Sucking can also help a baby to relax - both my babies used to love sucking on one of my knuckles when they were a bit cross or tired - they found it very soothing.

Grasp Reflex

We’ve all tried this one - put your finger in the palm of baby’s hand, and he will instinctively grasp it. Babies will do this up until about 3 months old.

Crawling Reflex

When you lay baby on his stomach, he will bend his legs and poke his bottom in the air - the crawling position. Baby will continue to do this for a couple of months, after which he will be able to lie flat on his stomach.

Walking Reflex

If you life a baby upright, and let his feet touch the floor, his legs will start to make a walking motion. Many babies do this for the first month or so. Be very careful though - baby’s neck muscles are still very weak, and his head should also be supported in an upright position. Once this reflex disappears, baby won’t be ready to try walking again until around the 12-month mark.

Diving Reflex

I’m not sure I’m keen to test this one, but babies have a diving reflex. If your baby is placed in water, either at birth or later in a swimming pool, his throat will automatically close so that he can’t swallow any water. So baby won’t drown if born in water, and is in fact a natural swimmer. Usually this reflex lasts for about 2 months, although it can be extended if you regularly take baby swimming.

Babinski’s Reflex

If you stroke the sole of baby’s foot, his big toe will curl up, while his other toes will spread out. I’m not sure why baby does this, although personally I think it’s an early stage of being ticklish! Babies will do this automatically for up to two years.

So there you have it - far from being little blobs that have yet to learn how to do very much, babies are in fact fascinatingly developed. So I hope this article helps you to appreciate all the hidden qualities of your baby.

Hypothermia or The Inability to Maintain Body Heat and Your Premature Baby

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 2:46 pm

Hypothermia or the “Inability to Maintain Body Heat” is a common problem with premature babies, and hypothermia is defined as “abnormally low body temperature”. A premature baby’s response to decreasing body temperature is a slower heart rate, dropping blood pressure, cardiac arrhythmias, passing out, and eventually death. Other normal responses to hypothermia such as shivering, mental confusion, and memory loss are not detected in a premature baby because her body is not mature enough to have these responses. A premature baby may shiver, but many times they will not because of an under-developed shivering response.

The reason a premature baby has such a difficult time keeping her own body warm is due to a low percentage of body fat, an immature neurological system, fragile skin, and a poor metabolism. As these body systems mature, the risk to your premature baby decreases significantly. The simple solution to hypothermia is warming the premature baby up, and making sure her body temperature remains at the normal temperature of 98.6.

An isolette or an incubator is used to keep your premature baby warm, and these enclosed warming beds are designed to keep all drafts away from your baby until she is able to maintain her own body temperature. Sometimes a radiant heater is used to keep your premature baby warm. When your baby reaches about 4 pounds (2,000 grams), she can be moved out of her warm enclosed bed to an open hospital crib. Weight gain is an important goal because this increases your premature baby’s body fat, and this in turn holds the heat from escaping your baby’s body.

There are two kinds of body fat that are important to your premature baby. The most important one is brown body fat because this fat actually helps to produce body the heat that your premature baby needs. The other fat, white fat, is important too because it holds the heat in that is produced by the brown body fat.

A premature baby, even one “old enough” to go home, will not be allowed to leave the hospital until she can maintain a normal body temperature. This is a safeguard to insure that your premature baby will not have problems from hypothermia. When your premature baby has reached this milestone, she can maintain her body temperature from this point onward.

Baby Showers - Etiquette, Tips and How Host One

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:56 pm

Baby showers are a universal way to welcome a new baby. These parties are normally given by a family member or close friend of the pregnant woman. During these modern times, it is acceptable for coworkers to host the shower, as well. It is not uncommon for a woman to have more than one shower. What a lucky mom!

The shower is usually held toward the latter period of the pregnancy, often during the eighth month. Showers normally aren’t held too early in case problems arise. Having it too late might result in the baby making an early appearance and mom being at the hospital during party time. Some cultures encourage the baby shower after the child is born.

Nowadays it is acceptable to have a baby shower for the second, third, or subsequent pregnancy. It is the general consensus that every child be celebrated with his or her own shower. Parents today find that there is an ever increasing amount of new baby items on the market so a shower thrown for each child helps to keep the family up-to-date with the latest gadgets and must have items.

It is acceptable nowadays to invite men to the baby shower. After all, the father of the baby wants to celebrate too! Men have been allowed in the delivery room for many years now, why not let them into the baby shower as well? Close friends, relatives, co-workers and other people that the parents-to-be would enjoy having at the baby shower should all be invited.

As for the baby shower location, it is usually held at the home of the host. Sometimes the home of a friend or relative willing to host it is common also. It is not unheard of to have the baby shower at a banquet hall, church gym, restaurant, picnic area, club meeting hall, or par area. If the baby shower is held at a restaurant, typically the host is responsible for all expenses incurred. Some restaurants will honor requests for less expensive meals since it will be a larger party. Or you can include in the invitation that free drinks and dessert will be provided. This lets the guests know that meals are not going to be free.

If you want to have a child-free baby shower, especially if you know of an invited guest who has a particularly unruly child, it is best to state this in the invitation. A tactful way is something like, “hire a sitter and meet us there at noon”. Or if you know that children are coming, hire childcare in a separate area during the shower.

The rest of the shower activities are usually designated to games, food and socializing. Games are not mandatory but many people enjoy them. There is a plethora of data online where you can find the rules of baby shower games. They range from the mild, such as pinning a baby pin on your lapel but giving it up when you cross your legs and seeing how many you can collect. Games classified as not for the faint at heart would be to actually taste food and liquids that babies must eat and to guess what they are. These are all done in fun and make up for a memorable day for the parents-to-be.

Baby Gates Flexibility and Warning

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 3:34 pm

Baby gates keep your babies and toddlers safe. But remember that they are not the only ones who will be using the baby gate. Older children as well as parents in the house will at some point need to pass these gates. That is why it is very important that you get a gate that is easy to open and close firmly. Do your best not to step over the gate, particularly when the youngster being protected is watching. You don’t want the child to learn a bad habit.

Flexible Baby Gates.
When thinking of baby gates we usually imagine wood or metal barriers. Not all safety barriers are made out of these materials. Some are made from Plexiglas or high-strength fabrics. As an example, the Kiddy Guard safety barrier protects children up to the age of two.

Baby Gates can be used in doorways and stairways, and normally expands up to 51 inches. The Kiddy Guard fits inside a doorframe or between two walls and is retractable when not in use, making it quite a flexible barrier.

The hardware-mounted gates are attached with screws to walls and banisters. These gates typically open and close much like a door. This makes them more suitable for areas you’ll be walking through frequently. They can be mounted between two walls, two banisters or a banister and a wall. Hardware-mounted gates are intended to be installed into a solid wood surface. If your doorway or opening is already framed in wood you can install the gate without any preparation. If not, you’ll have to install a Gate Mounting Kit, obtainable where you buy baby gates.

Baby Gate Warning.
When looking for the right baby gate, it’s vital to remember than some gates themselves are dangerous. As an example, accordion-style baby gates with large V-shaped openings along the top edge and diamond-shaped openings between the slats are a strangulation risk. Children who have tried crawling through these gates have died when their heads got trapped in the V-shaped or diamond-shaped openings. The hazardous accordion-style baby gates have not been sold since 1985, though you may still find them at yard sales or in thrift stores, so be alert!

When Bed-wetting is a Problem in Your Home, What Do You Do?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:38 am

Often times when a child is wetting his or her bed, the
reason is due either to an undiagnosed medical condition or
due to psychological effects. As a parent, you will want to
find out what is happening with your child so that you can
stop bedwetting.

Unfortunately, there are things that prevent many parents
from trying to determine what causes their child’s
bedwetting. Some of the things that stop parents from
helping their children include:

Initial Tips for Dealing with Bedwetting in Your Household

There are some tips you will want to adopt right away in
order to deal with bedwetting in your household:

Tip #1: Work on Sensitivity

One of the biggest impacts of bedwetting on your child is an
emotional one, so you should work on making sure that your
household is sensitive to your child’s situation. No one at
home should tease your child or make them feel terrible
about their bedwetting. The more teased a child is about
bedwetting, the more difficult it will be for the child to
overcome the problem.

The older a child is, the more ashamed they may be of
wetting the bed, and the more important it will be to stay
level-headed and calm to prevent shaming the child. Shaming
will only result in trauma and may even make bedwetting
worse.

Tip #2: Watch your own sensitivity levels.

It is not just siblings and other children that need to be
considered. Parents often inadvertently are insensitive to
their child’s bedwetting. They are frustrated by the laundry
that must be done and are sometimes even angered by having
so many sheets stained or even ruined by urine.

On a rushed morning, dealing with urine-soaked sheets before
dashing off to work can be frustrating, but it is crucial
not to lose your temper. Even if you manage to be calm most
of the time, one outburst about bedwetting will linger in
your child’s mind and make them feel ashamed.

If you find that you have no time to deal with sheets and
clean-up in the morning, strip the sheets and leave them for
later. If you are angry by the cost of bed linens, consider
buying less expensive sheets in bulk for a while to reduce
costs for yourself. Keep rags and other clean up items
(deodorizer and cleaner) in the child’s room for fast
cleaning.

Work on reducing your stress levels when it comes to
bedwetting, and you are less likely to make an unfortunate
comment from pure stress.

Tip #3: Educate Yourself

If you have several children, you need to be aware that
siblings will often tease a brother or sister who “still
wets the bed.” Letting these children know that Enuresis is
a condition can help them be more sensitive towards their
sibling while measures are taken to prevent bedwetting.

Tip #4: Educate your child

For the child affected by Enuresis, being told the facts
about bedwetting can be a big help. Children often hear
misconceptions about bedwetting from other children. Myths
such as “only babies wet the bed” can be hurtful to your
child and can make him or her feel as though there is
something “wrong” with them.

Often, explaining that Enuresis is an actual condition and
talking about the remedies doctors have come up for it can
help persuade your child that bedwetting is curable and a
common problem. That way, your child can focus on resolving
the problem rather than worry about the embarrassment they
feel.

Tip # 5:Visit a Doctor

Since some bedwetting is caused by undiagnosed medical
conditions such as diabetes or allergies, it makes sense to
take your child to a doctor to be checked out. If there is a
doctor in your area who is known for treating children with
Enuresis, so much the better. In either case, ruling out
medical problems can be a big relief. If a medical problem
is causing your child to wet the bed, coping with the
problem will also generally resolve the Enuresis.
