Ideas on How to Host a Baby Shower - Shower Yourself with Ideas!

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 8:40 am

Are you looking for ideas on how to host a baby shower? The mind can boggle when confronted with the ideas you’ll get from people on what sort of baby shower invitations to use, what baby shower games are best and exactly what sort of baby shower centerpiece to use. Though everyone means well, it’s understandable that you’d want the baby shower to be your own creation and not an amalgamation of your friends’ ideas.

Looking for ideas on how to host a baby shower is easy. With internet access, you’re privy to ideas from around the world and can find baby shower games, baby shower invitations and ideas for baby shower centerpieces using any search engine.

For example, baby shower games don’t have to stop at “Pin the pacifier on the baby”. There’s the popular “Baby shower Bingo” or try playing “Noah’s Ark” with guests competing to see who can come up with two animals (or baby names) for every letter of the alphabet, with the quickest being the winner.

Baby shower invitations can go from expensive and elegant to those created and printed off for free. It’s all a matter of your budget and how much time you can invest.

Baby shower centerpieces can be functional yet adorable, such as the “Diaper Cake” a non-edible “cake” made from diapers and baby needs that the mother takes home with her to use after the baby is born to feeding your guests creatively by using the chocolate fountains that are all the rage right now.

When looking for ideas to host a baby shower, all you need is knowledge of what the parents like plus a modicum of creativity and you’ll do fine. With the internet, you truly can let your fingers do the walking.

Choose Baby Bedding Wisely

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 11:06 pm

Every adorable baby deserves equally adorable baby bedding to complete the nursery. There are other things to consider when deciding on what is right for the nursery. Bedding for your baby must be safe as well as fitting in with your decorating theme. You only need a lightweight blanket, no comforter is necessary.

Consider a tightly fitting crib bumper a necessity and one that isn’t too fluffy or full. Add bumper ties so you are ensured to have a safe snug fit in the crib. All of the bedding that you are considering should have a bottom sheet that fits snuggly. Allow for some shrinkage, after you wash it, it may not fit the mattress anymore. Cute and adorable is great, and safe is even better.

When it comes time to start shopping and buying for baby bedding you will fall in love with the cute and whimsical choices. You have spent time considering just the right theme, but you don’t have to spend a fortune on decorating for the baby bedding. Your baby won’t know the difference if you went to the most exclusive baby boutique, or if you decorated with thrift store items. Do you want baby animals or fairy tales, candy colors or calming tones, trendy pop culture or designer chic? What about planes, trains and automobiles? Your choices will be endless. You may want to decorate with your own creative touch. If you enjoy painting, take a stab at creating your own nursery motif on the walls. Paint a whole mural on the wall if you are inclined, or just start with a little border. If this sounds too daunting, take a plain rocker from a thrift store and paint it a white or pastel with glossy enamel. Then you can create your own little designs on the chair, or just paint the name of the baby on it. Nothing you do for your baby’s room will ever look wrong. You did it yourself and with love. No matter which decorating theme you choose, the nursery’s bedding will complete your baby’s room to perfection.

Your baby’s bedding is changed often so you may want to select styles of sheets that will coordinate with each other. Stay with one color palette and you can mix and match patterns and prints. If you have chosen tan and brown teddy bears for the decorating theme of the nursery, you can have a neutral color on the wall and just bring in other colors of bedding to enhance the bears. You could also pick a color like pink and work in plaids and stripes or whimsical shapes. Add stars, kitties or hearts to the mix - it will all blend together. Stay away from fabrics such as chenille because the baby can pull the fabric out or fabric that is dry clean only. You won’t have that much time to run to the dry cleaners every time you need to change the bed. Don’t make the mistake of having cute bows in the crib, or even around it. As the baby grows, things around it such as mobiles and wall hangings that are too close to the crib will be a little too dangerous for the baby. Make common sense decisions when it comes to the nursery bedding and you and your baby will be happier for it.

Filed under: Credit + Ratings, Finance Tips — Tags: — admin @ 7:22 pm

Most individuals don’t realise how much a debt relief company can help their future finances. By using a debt relief company to restore your bad credit can help to better many other facets of your life. It can also open more doors for you down the road once your credit is restored. A debt relief company can better your credit faster and assist you to fulfill your future goals.

Using a debt settlement company will mean that you will receive a greater chance of being approved for additional credit or loan products in the future. Being able to get authorized for additional loans is very crucial for buying a new car or obtaining a mortgage loan to purchase a house. Fixing poor credit with a debt settlement company should increase your chances of being approved by the lender or the credit card company that you are interested in doing business with.

Individuals that have used a debt relief company will normally get lower interest rates for credit cards and loans when equated to a person that carries bad credit and poor marks on their credit report. Credit card companies view the individual as a small risk customer when they have employed a debt relief company to aid. This supplies the credit card company with the choice to offer the individual a lower rate because they believe that they will recieve their payments on time. Aquiring a lower interest rate can spare you loads of money over the years of your loan.

Easy Steps to Creating Amazing Baby Shower Center Pieces

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:21 am

When planning a baby shower for a friend of family member it is always important to plan ahead. One thing to think about ahead of time the center piece for the table or tables.

Traditionally baby shower centerpieces are flow arrangements. These are things that you can easily do on your own and save a little money or if you are pressed for time simply pay a florist to do the work for you. It really depends on your budget versus amount of free time. It is very simple to really spruce a flower arrangement up for a baby shower by including some fun baby items. For example place small teddy bears around the bottom of the arrangement. You can also add letter blocks, safety pins for cloth diapers, rattles or other small baby toys. These add a light and fun touch to the traditional flower arrangement and make the baby shower center pieces really stand out.

Another option that is becoming very popular is diaper cakes. These can either be real baby shower cakes decorated with diapers and baby items on them or they can be cakes actually made out of diapers (But you don’t eat these cakes). Diaper cakes are often wrapped in cellophane and have a very decorative bow and fun. These can make a very striking centerpiece for a baby shower and an easy conversation piece.

Another fun and festive option is balloons. Balloons a very easy, one can just go to their local party store and have a bunch of balloons made into an arrangement. Plus balloons are very festive and they always say party. To add a little more of the bay shower touch to balloons you can easily die baby rattles to the bottom of the balloons as a weight to keep them on the table.

A very non-traditional idea might be to take an empty fishbowl and decorate it paint pens, beads or other fun objects that can be found at your local craft store. Then add some water and candles and you have a very unique baby shower centerpiece. Another non-traditional idea that I have personally used was a small collection of toy fire trucks and police cars with balloons tied to them. This of course was a baby shower for a new baby boy.

Some important tips to remember when thinking about a baby shower centerpiece are:

1. Leave yourself enough time to completely the project in a relaxed manner

2. Plan to have problems with materials etc and then if you don’t you will finish ahead of schedule.

3. Enlist the help of other friends. They often have fun decorating for a baby shower.

4. Plan your theme first and then work outwards based on the theme.

5. Most of all is be creative. There is no one-way to do this and it is important to be creative, have fun and do the work with love.

If you follow the above suggestions and brainstorm some of your own ideas the bay shower centerpiece is sure to be a huge success. Again it is important to take the time to be creative and really enjoy the project. These will show in the final results and everyone will see the love and effort that were put into the baby shower.

Cooking with a Toddler

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:48 pm

‘Cooking’ in our house is a broad term that basically means splatting the walls with cake mixture and stirring pancake mixture with bananas. That’s fine by me to a certain extent, most things are washable and I wouldn’t want to be accused of stifling my sons creativity, but I have developed a couple of strategies to make the whole ‘cooking’ process a lot less stressful for me.

Firstly I get all the ingredients out so he doesn’t have to find some other way to entertain himself while I look for something. I try to prepare a few things in advance too, like cutting the tops off onions ready for him to peel. He is getting quite good at stopping pouring now, but before he had that self-discipline I would measure out liquids before handing them over to him to add to mixtures. I try to clear the surrounding area of non-food items too, fridge magnets and cat crunchies do not cook well.

My 2 year old helps me with washing veg, pouring, measuring, cutting (heavily supervised), mixing, cracking eggs, rolling out, kneading, filling pastry cases or paper bun cases, stamping out biccies, icing, decorating and eating the end results. He would probably cook all day if he could. We have the odd argument about biscuits staying on baking sheets and them having eventually to go in the oven, but on the whole cooking is a good hours worth of entertainment. More if I get him to do the washing up afterwards. I don’t let him put stuff in or take it out of the oven yet though and I think he is too young to do cooking on the hob.

We make all sorts of stuff, he likes cutting mushrooms up and mixing chickpea flour, water and chopped up veg for pakoras. His biccy cutter of choice is the piggy and his bread kneading is spectacular, if unorthodox!

Bread ideas:
Most bread flours or packet yeasts have recipes on them, you need to let the dough rise first so unless you have a child that understands the concept of delayed gratification I recommend making the dough in advance. After it has risen the child can punch the air out of it and knead it again.

Sultana spirals: Roll dough into a rectangle, sprinkle with sultanas (and sugar if you like), roll up in a spiral and cut into thick slices. When put onto a baking sheet they will rise and join up.

Hedgehog bread: take a fist size bit of dough and roll into a ball. Pinch one end into a point for the face and snip into the ball with scissors to make the prickles. Add raisins for eyes.
Glazing with oil, milk or beaten egg is good fun too.

Biccy ideas:
As long as you are not too fussy you can make biccys with all sorts of random ingredients. You basically need twice as much flour as fat and a bit or sweet stuff and liquid.

something dry; flour, or oats,

something wet; milk or water,
something oily; oil or marj,
and sugar.

If you use normal flour it is easiest because the gluten in it makes the pastry stick together. If you use flour without gluten it can be easier to use if you chill it for half an hour before you roll it. If it can’t be rolled it can usually be pressed into a flattish shape.

Grated coconut (the type that comes in cardboard boxes), mixed with a little honey and hot water makes great and not too sweet icing.

Family Baby Showers

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:00 am

The addition of baby number 2, 3, or 10 is an occasion to celebrate for any family.

Just think how exciting it must be for your littlest one who is used to always being the younger brother to find out he’s going to be a big brother!

Though baby showers have traditionally been held for mommies-to-be only, times are changing and many people are having baby showers to celebrate the new baby’s whole family-to-be.

What better way to celebrate than to throw a baby shower party in their honor?! Grandparents or aunts or uncles can organize a baby party for the extended family and some close friends to mark the importance of the family unit.

Make a family tree to hang at the baby shower party. Have guests sign on their “branch” as a keepsake for the baby. “Trees” could be a baby shower theme for the party.

Other baby shower decorations for a family baby shower could include past portraits, baby pictures of Mom, Dad, and siblings, and a history of the family name.

Spend some time thinking about some funny stories from parties past. Like the time the expectant mom tripped during Aunt Edna’s wedding. Or when the new baby’s older brother fell asleep in the linen closet at the Christmas party last year.

Ask your baby shower guests to do the same and come prepared to share. These could be a whoot to retell. Beware: Mommy-to-be may laugh way too hard and cause herself to go into premature labor!

When sending out baby shower invitations, inform your guests that this will be a party for the whole family and that gifts for Mom, Dad and siblings are appreciated in addition to baby shower gifts for the new baby.

A few suggestions for one gift for the whole family. Buy a gift certificate for a portrait. Open a savings account for a future vacation. Or you can buy individual baby shower gifts for each, like matching t-shirts!

No gathering would be complete without a family photo. Make sure someone there has a camera with a timer on it and a tripod, or something that can substitute for one.

Then, once everyone is there, and Mom is ready (she may not feel like she looks so hot, so remind her how beautiful and glowing she is). Get the whole gang together and snap a photo for the baby shower remembrance.

Take lots of other pictures as well to let baby know just how much he or she was loved even before they arrived.

One idea for preserving the memory of baby’s creation is to do a belly casting. You can buy kits. They mainly consist of a plaster of Paris material to use for creating a cast of Mom’s belly. This will show the new little one where they started out.

If the new baby has a lot of young cousins and siblings, keep them occupied with their own special task. Provide them with a large piece of paper and coloring supplies. Either markers, paints, or crayons. Ask them to create a welcome home banner for the baby. Then place it over the crib in the nursery.

You may want to start by providing the lettering. Then let the children color the words and add their own artwork. Don’t forget to include the ‘big’ kids, too. Have all of your baby shower guests sign the banner as well.

Is It Time To Potty Train Yet?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:41 am

Are you sick and tired of changing those diapers day after day? All you can think of is the day when your child will go to the bathroom on his own and no diapers has to be changed. Does this sound familiar and are you wanting to start potty training your child but don’t know if the time is right or how to go about getting your child out of those diapers.

Getting your child potty trained can be kind of tricky because if your child is not ready this process can take a long time. Then again if you wait too long the child may actually end up resisting your attempts. So when do you start and how do you know if the time is right for your child? How do you know when to begin?

First of all you need to ignore many of the ideas you may have gotten from people around you because each child is so very different when it comes to what will work for them as far as potty training is concerned. You might hear from your parents that your child is very slow in getting trained but in general kids today do get out of diapers later than what children did years ago. Some says it is because the diapers today are much more comfortable than the cloth ones which your parents may have used for you.

For most children today the age when they start showing signs of being ready for potty training is between 2 and 3 years old. One of the first signs that he may be getting ready is when the child is capable of pulling his own pants up and down. This along with questions and curiosity regarding the toilet should give you a clear clue.

Another important physical sign of potty training readiness is the frequency with which your child urinates. If he is still wetting his diaper every half and hour or so, he is not ready. But, if he’s going one to two hours between wet diapers, then he is able to hold his urine, which is critical to being truly potty trained, at any age.

This is when you as a parent need to start both explaining and showing how this task is done. First of all let them know that this is how big people go to the bathroom and that they don’t use diapers. If you have a son it is now important for dad to take on some of the responsibility by taking his son with him when he goes to the bathroom so your son can actually see how it works. Dad, bringing him with you just once don’t work it has to be repeated no matter how uncomfortable it makes you feel and you are the one who has to show him, mom can’t.

The same thing goes for mom when it comes to the little girls and when they do start showing interest for the toilet, there are several good story books on the market about potty training that you can start reading to your child at this stage, to help encourage an interest in going potty. There are books geared specifically to boys and those geared to girls, which is helpful.

Making Your Baby’s Clothes Last!

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 8:46 pm

As any mother with a young child will tell you, babies grow very quickly. So for new mothers, making the most out of baby clothes is of the utmost importance. So what do you do when those onesies just don’t quite snap anymore? How do you get an extra month out of those jeans that are a little too short for the winter months?

The great thing about onesies, is that they’re a very workable cotton fabric, and there really isn’t any hemming necessary to turn a couple of onesies that fit at five months into a couple of shirts that fit at eight months. Simply cut them off right at the leg holes, and gently pull the material around the edges so that it rolls a tiny bit. This way there are no exposed threads for baby to pull at or chew on. The same can apply to footsie pajamas. By simply snipping off the feet, you can easily get another month’s wear out of the sleepwear.

Adding extra buttons to overalls or snappy shirts makes them naturally grow with your child. Perhaps one of the best investments a new mother can make is in a mid-priced sewing machine. This makes alterations and additions a breeze, and gives you a new hobby for when baby naps (Just make sure there is enough wall between you and the crib so that the whirring of the machine doesn’t make undue stress for you!)

Things like adding extra material to the bottom of a dress or skirt can be done in just minutes, as can letting out the hem of a pair of jeans or overalls. Buying clothes initially that are mid-priced and made of a cotton material with a lot of elastic and snaps makes transitions that much easier. Shoes are always going to be a problem, but buying a canvas sneaker in the spring can convert into a mule for summer wear, as long as the baby is not walking yet. Socks without built in heels is keythat way the baby can grow a little bit longer in the socks. Also, even though socks with ducks and elephants are cute, sticking to a plain color can help extend the life of individual socks if one gets lost. In the summer a grey or white sock is less likely to irritate a sweaty baby’s sensitive skin because they don’t contain dyes.

Think of ways that you would extend the life of your own clothes. T-shirts that come three to a pack can easily be downgraded to rags or dust cloths. Jeans and pants that have become worn or are too short can be cut and hemmed for summer shorts. Sweaters can become blankies. Things like first outfits and special occasion’s clothes can be put into a special chest to pass on to your child for when they have children of their own. For the most part, making baby clothes last, laundering aside, is about ingenuity and personality. Learn the basics of stitching and hemming and let the designer in you shine through!
