The Personality Traits of A Baby Born During The Sign Of Cancer

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 12:47 pm

Your Cancer Baby..

June 21 - July 22

A Cancer child can be independent from a young age, often playing alone for hours and inventing invisible playmates. Cancer babies are fascinated by colors and pictures, and they love the different tastes of delicious foods and drinks. Cancer children need to be hugged and loved and they thrive when encouraged. A Cancer baby will change moods frequently and will withdraw themselves if they suffer any kind of rejection. Young Cancer children are quite capable of using tears to get what they want and Cancer babies have a reputation for crying a lot.

However, Cancerians are delightful and fascinating children whose changing moods are shown on their faces. They are imaginative and will thrive when given a lot of warmth and attention. Your Cancer child will be easy to manage and discipline and will be well-mannered. Most Cancerians prefer to be the leader rather than to follow.

When raising a Cancer child you will need to give constant reassurance when she is fearful, which is likely to be often. These children are very sensitive to emotional hurts and rejections and will need your support to ensure that they do not feel unloved. The danger is that they may withdraw into themselves for self-protection.

You should encourage your child to express emotions in poetry, painting, music, acting or any other creative activity. Parents will need to find a compromise between being too firm and spoiling your child.

Cancerians are unlikely to complain when they are ill. Typical illnesses involve the upper digestive track - the stomach.

What Should I Buy For BabyAn Experienced Mom’s Advice

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 7:00 am

Baby’s coming home soon - have you got what you need to take care of the little angel properly? You know you need footie pajamas and onesies, baby towels and bibs - but how many is enough? Having done this five times now - please hold the applause and gasps of shock - I consider myself a bit of an expert on bringing baby home to a prepared household. Most estimates of ‘what you need for baby’ are a wee bit off, in my opinion. Having brought baby home both with and without a handy washing machine, here’s my recommendations for what the well-equipped baby should have at home before he leaves the hospital.

Layette:
Four to six undershirts - the usual recommendation - is actually plenty. You’ll find you use them far less than I did when my oldest was born - pre-Onesies days. Skip the tank tops, as cute as the little midge might look in one just like daddy’s, and go straight for the lap-shoulder t-shirts. They slip on easily, and if you buy them a size or two too big, they’ll be long enough to tuck into sweatpants or bottoms.

Sleeping gowns are underrated. They make a great second layer over onesies, and are cool, loose and comfortable for baby in the summer. If you’re bringing home a summer baby, pick up at least 6 or 8 sleeping gowns. They’re much more comfortable in the heat than stretchies.

You can never have enough onesies. Whether you use them as the bottom layer in winter outfitting or the only thing baby wears in the summer, you’ll go through several a day. If you have a washer at home, you can get by with 6-8. Otherwise, pick up even more. An even dozen isn’t really too many at all.

- Experienced mom’s note: DO use them in the summer. They’ll keep your baby cooler than being in a diaper alone because the cotton absorbs moisture and wicks it away from the skin.

Stretchies are the second handiest baby invention ever. Stick with 100% natural fabrics like stretch cotton or cotton terry for the summer. For the winter, fuzzy jammies should go OVER a pair of onesies rather than against the skin to prevent irritation. 6-8 stretchies should be enough for baby’s first few months.

Pick up one or two sweaters or sweatshirts to keep baby warm in wintertime or on cooler spring/summer evenings.

Four to six pairs each of booties and socks should be plenty. Cotton stretchy ones will be far more comfortable for baby than nylon.

One special take-me-home outfit and a few cute everyday ones.

Supplies:
Half a dozen baby washcloths are a must. They’re far thinner than regular adult washcloths, and less likely to irritate baby’s skin. I never used more than three or four hooded towels, but your mileage may vary. They’re awfully handy for wrapping a baby up from head to toe after a bath, especially in a cool house.

Bibs are another of those things you just can’t have enough of. Drool bibs are fine for tucking under baby’s chin to keep drool and spit-up from staining clothing. You won’t need the bigger bibs for feeding for a while, but pick up one or two to have on hand.

Receiving blankets make great all purpose you-name-its. They’re the perfect size for swaddling baby under a crib blanket, tossing over your shoulder when you burp the munchkin - or for privacy while you nurse him. You’ll use them as towel substitutes, to toss on the floor or on a changing station before you put the baby down, spread them over the stroller or baby seat in the sun - in other words, for just about everything. 6-12 certainly aren’t too many. It’s not like the baby will outgrow them - my toddlers used them as bath towels for years.

Even if you’re using disposable diapers, pick up a dozen cloth diapers. They’re simply the best burp rag ever made.

Two packages of disposable diapers (size newborn and size one) if you’ve decided to use disposables.

When To Move From Carseat To Booster

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 11:37 pm

Under three, use a car seat. The guidelines for transporting infants and toddlers are deeply embedded in parental mantras. It gets a little fuzzy though when your youngster hits hyper-drive and grows out of his front-facing car seat.

Today, less than 10% of children ages 4 - 8 use a booster seat when riding in cars. National traffic and safety organizations have confirmed that your child needs to be restrained appropriately when riding in a car. This means supplementing the standard adult-sized seat belts with additional equipment to keep your child safe.

The child restraint system you use changes as your child grows. You started with the rear-facing infant seat, then graduated to the front-facing car seat after your child was one year old. Some state laws only require a car seat up to the age of three and parents may assume their child is safe in just a seat belt, but this is not the case.

When your child outgrows his front-facing car seat, he is still not big enough to fit properly in an adult seat belt. To keep him safely restrained, you will need to use a belt positioning booster seat. Any child who cannot sit with his back straight against the seat back and have his knees bend over the seat edge is not big enough to be restrained with just an adult safety belt.

There are two types of booster seats available:

No-Back Belt-Positioning Booster Seats. These seats are used with a lap/shoulder belt and are for use in vehicles with built-in head restraints.

High-Back Belt-Positioning Boost Seats. These seats provide head and neck support for your child if your vehicle seat back does not have a head restraint.

When a booster seat is not used, the lap and shoulder belts end up being positioned in dangerous areas on a young child and may cause serious or fatal injuries in the event of a crash.

A booster seat lifts your child up so the seat belt fits right and protects your child. The lap belt should fit low across the hip area. The shoulder belt should cross his chest and rest snugly on the shoulder. Your child’s ears should not be higher than the seat back cushion or the back of a high-back booster seat model.

Important things to remember about using booster seats:

    • Always use both the lap and shoulder belt.
Do not tuck the shoulder belt behind your child’s back or under his arm. He could be seriously hurt if you are in an accident.
    • Replace a booster seat that has been in an accident. It may have defects that you cannot see.
    • Have your child safety seats inspected by a certified child safety seat technician in your community. You can contact your local police or fire department or call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s toll-free hotline at 1-888-DASH-2-DOT.

The Five Best Baby Shower Gifts

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 7:14 pm

Ask first time parents-to-be what baby shower gifts they would like to receive. Watch their response — you’ll quite likely see a look of real confusion on their faces! Or maybe they’ll come up with a stock answer like “diapers” or something similar.

Exactly what a new arrival needs is not obvious to someone who’s never had a baby before. And many times, guests are in no better position either, when it comes to deciding on baby shower gifts.

Of course, there’s a lot more to baby showers than just gifts. But helping parents to stock up for the new arrival is an important part of these celebrations.

That’s why the following list of top five baby shower gifts can be quite useful.

    Top gift #1: Monitors

Monitors are excellent anxiety-busters, especially for first-time parents. That’s why they hold the No.1 position on this list.

Once they can listen to the baby from anywhere in the house, parents find their confidence levels zooming. The latest monitors are very sensitive and can pick up the slightest sound from baby, even her breathing.

If your budget allows for it, take it one step further and buy a video monitor. That’ll really ease anxiety. However, they are much more expensive, so perhaps this can be a joint baby shower gift from two or more guests.

Top Gift #2: Playtime mate for baby

Babies love to play. Anything that helps them play and be active not only keeps them engaged, but also stimulates all round development.

One of the best products for them is an activity gym or playpen. This is a soft cloth mat surrounded by a baby-friendly structure of bars and arches with many different toys suspended from various points. Baby gets to play in a safe environment.

Basic activity gyms are excellent baby shower gifts. There are also more advanced ones that include noisemakers and a variety of toys. The suspended objects have different colors and textures to help develop baby’s cognitive abilities.

There are also excellent portable gyms and playpens available to help parents move around with baby. These are lightweight and designed to be easy to carry around.

    Top Gift #3: Baby sling

Most babies love being carried around in a sling. It’s the next best thing to being cuddled in mom’s arms. Many parents have had the experience where babies get restless and cry while they use other types of carriers, but immediately calm down when put into a sling.

Baby slings are believed to foster a closer parent-child bond. Whether that’s true or not, slings do have another great advantage — they leave your hands free to do other things. That’s definitely a big plus and is a reason why this baby shower gift is highly appreciated.

Top Gift #4: The baby travel pack

Moving around with baby can be a chore — you have to pack a seemingly endless array of baby stuff even for short outings.

One way to ease this problem is to have one or more baby travel packs handy. What’s a travel pack? Essentially, a diaper bag filled with baby necessities. It can include disposable diapers, a small toy or two, bib, complete change of clothes for baby, safety pins, and other supplies.

It’s a great advantage if the parents receive more than one travel pack. Then one pack can always be kept ready whenever they want to go. No need to mess around with picking up and stuffing items into a diaper bag at the last minute.

    Top gift #5: Car seat

Lots of parents say that a well-designed car seat is a wonderfully useful baby shower gift to receive. In fact, it’s useful from the moment they leave hospital with the baby.

There are infant car seats available as well as infant-toddler convertible seats. The former can be used only till the baby is up to 22 pounds or so (typically). While the latter can usually be used till the first birthday.

Both are great baby shower gifts specially designed for the baby on the move!

Make sure these top five baby shower gifts are part of the event you’re hosting. The guest of honor will end up thanking you long after the party gets over!

15 Super Baby Care Tips That Every Parent Should Be Aware Of

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 7:59 pm

    (1) At 10 months of age you can contribute to your baby’s brain development by giving her old magazines for her to look at and tear the pages out of. But watch her carefully so she doesn’t put any pieces of paper into her mouth.

    (2) During the first few months, put a well-fitted nightcap on your baby’s head when she goes to bed. This will help keep her warm at night until she grows more insulating hair.

    (3) Your baby usually starts teething at 6 months old. You can try a topical pain reliever from the drugstore if it’s preventing her from falling asleep.

    (4) Attach receipts to the tags on a new baby clothes. This way if something doesn’t fit when you go to put it on your baby, you can return it for a larger size.

    (5) If your baby is six months or older and frequently has severe influenza infection (e.g., diabetes, children with asthma, or heart disease) you should consider bringing her to the doctor to be vaccinated against influenza.

    (6) You should not give your baby water to drink if she is under 4 months because her kidneys aren’t yet equipped to handle it.

    (7) Beware! Baby powder with talc may cause irritation to your baby’s lungs and cause breathing problems.

    (8) Always remember to burp your newborn after each breast or after every 3 to 4 ounces of formula in order to avoid gas and spitting up later.

    (9) Two or three times a week, give your baby a tour of her room by holding her upright in your arms against your stomach and facing away from you then you describe each item as you show her around.

    (10) A small frozen bagel makes a good first teething food for your baby. Just be sure she’s in a sitting position and under your supervision while eating it. Take it away once it gets too mushy.

    (11) Allowing your baby to nap or sleep with a bottle of milk or juice can lead to tooth decay.

    (12) As a safety measure, your baby can still be vaccinated if she has a mild illness, such as stomach bug, ear infection, or a cold.

    (13) Show your baby a video of a recent family function, instead of regular children’s videos. She’ll have fun looking at all the familiar faces, including her own!

    (14) When you change your baby’s diaper, kiss her gently on the tummy, fingers and toes. This gentle and simple stimulation will greatly help her develop an early awareness of her body parts.

    (15) Let your baby nap in the portable crib for a few days before going on an overnight trip with your baby. This will make sure that she will sleep better when you get to your destination because she will be familiar with the crib.

    Guess What… I’m in Love

Filed under: Better Telecommunication, Market Patrons, Technology — admin @ 10:09 am

I have fallen in love. It’s true, I really, really have.

With who? My mobile broadband dongle from Broadband Genie!

You didn’t think it was something else did you?

But it is really amazing. I can now take my laptop pretty much anywhere in the UK (not tried tops of mountains yet, too much effort), and get connected to the Internet, at broadband speeds, almost anywhere you can get a mobile signal.

    How cool is that?

So far, I have been working and playing online with my laptop from pubs, cafes, restaurants, cars, trains and a football stadium. Now tell me you aren’t jealous!

The good news is that mobile broadband connection isn’t actually anywhere near as expensive as I thought; in fact, it is pretty cheap. The download speeds are top quality (I haven’t had any problems) and the signal coverage is as good as mobile (which it should be considering it is the mobile phone companies that are running it!).

I have definitely fallen in love with being able to get onto the Internet anywhere, in a much better and ease to use method than an iPhone. With so many good looking bags to carry my laptop in mobile broadband is definitely a winner for me!

Your Formula Fed Baby and Colic - Changes You Can Make To Alleviate Colic Symptoms

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:12 pm

Everything starts out wonderfully. You have a brand new baby who is absolutely adorable. And then IT happens. Around three weeks of age, he starts screaming and there is nothing you can really do to help him calm down. This screaming can last for hours and usually happens at the same time of day every day. Both you and your baby are very stressed. Unfortunately, it sounds like you have a colicky baby.

Colic will rear it’s ugly head in about 25% of all newborns and the causes can be very varied, from immature nervous system to an immature digestive system. The colic will slowly disappear, usually around the age of three months, but the time between three weeks and three months can cause many tears and much stress for both the baby and the parents.

For the formula fed baby, a main cause of colic can be a sensitivity to the protein in cow’s milk or, in fewer cases, the sugar in milk based formulas. The baby may not have enough of the enzyme required to break down milk protein which results in a build up of gas in the intestines. This build up can cause the intestines to go into painful spasms.

If you formula feed, there are some steps you can take to help alleviate the colic. Many times changing the type of formula you are giving your baby can make a dramatic change. Be sure to keep the communication with your pediatrician open during this colic period. She will be able to make sure that cause for the colic type behaviors is not a more serious illness.

Please note: It can take up to a week for the formulas to create a change in your baby. Rapidly changing from one formula to another will most likely create a temporary situation where the colic is worse, not better. Also know, that there may be a day or two where the colic seems worse instead of better while your child’s system gets used to the new formula.

One of the first formulas you can try on your quest for a less colicky baby is Carnation Good Start. This formula has “Comfort Proteins” and the proteins are then broken down into smaller pieces, within the formula, to be easier to digest in baby’s? stomach.
If you baby has a true sensitivity/allergy to the proteins in cow’s milk then the particular formula will not be effective. Either your baby will be much better after you start using this formula or the screaming will get much worse. Unfortunately there is no real way of telling which result you will have until you try it.

The next step on the formula trail is to move onto soy based formulas. This may work for some babies, but about half of the infants that are allergic to cow’s milk will also have a reaction to the proteins found in soy based formulas.

If the above formula changes don’t work for your baby, there is a third type of formula to try. Hypo allergenic formulas like Nutramigen and Alimentum can make a huge dent in the colic symptoms. The major down side of these formulas is the cost. A can of Nutramigen can cost around $22.00, very expensive but well worth if it helps calm the colic.

In an attempt to defray some of the cost of these formulas, it is highly recommended that you sign up for their mailing lists. They send coupons out every so often that can make a substantial difference in the cost of a can of the formula.

Another suggestion is to buy the formula in bulk. A store, like Babies-R-Us, sells Nutramigen in a case and the cost comes out to about $3 less a can.

If you meet the income requirements, you may be able to get this formula through WIC, a Federal grant program. You need to check it the WIC offices in your state and you may have to get your pediatrician to write a prescription for Nutramigen, because WIC will most likely provide Carnation Good Start otherwise.
